Bringing the Flash and the Bang
February 1, 2013 | RogerIt seems that like every new ship that comes out adds another bell or whistle to the on board experience these days. There’s always something unique about a new ship. A new experience, a new feature – but sometimes it just rings hollow. Sometimes there’s a lot of flash, but no fireworks. The Norwegian Breakaway, which premieres in May of this year will have the flash and the bang, literally.
The Best Cocktails in the Caribbean
January 30, 2013 | HeidiOnce upon a time back in 1953, a famous British sea captain by the name of Capt. George Soule sailed from his native island of Barbados on a quest to find the ultimate Caribbean cocktail.
He searched Guadeloupe for Guava Gimlets, Saba for Sour Sop Sodas and Martinique for Mango Margaritas. His quest ended on the island of St. Thomas in the U.S Virgin Islands at a place called Mountain Top.
Eurodam’s Library an Open Book
January 29, 2013 | HeidiI’ve loved libraries since before I could read. So I am always pleased when I encounter a new library – especially in a place I never expected to find one.
I knew that the Eurodam cruise ship would be beautiful. All of the Holland America Cruise Line ships are lovely. But I never knew the Eurodam would have such a large library.
Small Ship, Big Appetite!
January 28, 2013 | HeidiWith all the activity on the Wilderness Explorer and the healthy dining options, I am hoping to lose weight on my eight-day cruise. It isn’t happening. Don’t know how chef Bob Ward and his culinary team prepare all that yummy food in such a small kitchen but they certainly do.
Jamaica’s Newest Destination Sensation
January 15, 2013 | RogerCruising into Jamaica has always been a bit of a challenge. Getting into Ocho Rios gives guests a great opportunity to visit Dunns River Falls, and Montego Bay has amazing beaches and a lot of fun places to visit. But until recently, guests have often had to choose doing one or the other. Now, though, Royal Caribbean has opened its new port – Falmouth, Jamaica – located between the two traditional port cities and offering a great option to experience more of the best that Jamaica has to offer.
It’s Deal Season!
January 10, 2013 | RogerWe don’t know exactly what it is, but once January comes around, people just like to start planning. It could be the new year, maybe its the stress of the holiday being in the rear view mirror, it might even be just people looking to escape the winter blahs. We just know that when travelers ring in the new year, they start to plan vacations for the year ahead. People in the travel industry often call the first three months of the year “wave season.” And booking during wave season can get you great deals. By no means is this an exhaustive list of the deals out there, but we’re sharing the best of the best today.
Disney Cruisers Collect Autographs
January 9, 2013 | HeidiClutching her official Disney autograph book, 5-year-old Dawn Stevens waited in her beautiful Cinderella gown. What made the stars in her eyes and the patient smile on her face?
“I’m going to get an autograph from Snow White,” the youngster said. “This will make almost 10 autographs that I have gotten.”
Memphis: ‘Where Elvis Lives’
January 7, 2013 | HeidiBlog contributor Jackie Sheckler Finch loves river cruising, and recently spent some extra time in Memphis before her American Queen river sailing.
Since Memphis is the American Queen’s new homeport and Priscilla Presley is the boat’s godmother, I thought I’d visit the home of the city’s most famous son when I arrived a day early for my cruise.
Regent Stays Connected on the Seven Seas
January 3, 2013 | RogerHere at the office, we relish the thought of being completely off the grid. Disconnected, and unable to be reached is a dream for many people that never seems to pan out in reality. The call of the cell phone and internet can just be too alluring, too necessary and too familiar to stay offline for many. And although cruises offer the ability to log on, the prices can be very high – and it can keep connectivity down to a bare minimum. However, Regent is looking to change that, believe it or not.
Three Reasons to Breakaway This Year
January 2, 2013 | RogerWith the new year, our thoughts are turning to new ships. In particular, the Norwegian Breakaway. Now granted, with offices near New York City, we’re partial because of its location. After all, it isn’t too often that brand new ships make New York City their homeport – but there are some truly unique features that make the Breakaway worth sailing on. We’ve come up with three great ones that we thought we’d share today.
