A Magical Getaway

With the Norwegian Breakaway nearing completion, Norwegian Cruise Line is starting to reveal details about the next new ship to be introduced in 2014, the Norwegian Getaway. Based in Miami, this new ship, like the Breakaway before it, will be themed around the city it sails from. And with Miami being the Magic City, the Getaway is bound to be full of magical experiences.

With the details that are starting to come out about this ship, we’re seeing things being added that are becoming the hallmarks of Norwegian Cruise Line, including Fireworks at Sea and an amazing Aqua Park, which like her sister ship – the Breakaway – will feature the twin tracked “Free Fall” where the floor literally opens up beneath you into a straight drop waterslide. But there are other unique elements to the Norwegian Getaway that are being announced.

We are excited about the ropes course, something that is quickly becoming a regular fun feature on many ships. The Getaway’s three story ropes course will feature something called “The Plank.” It’s a part of the ropes course that juts several feet out past the side of the ship – and guests get a chance to walk that plank!

The other feature to this ship is pretty neat, and we’re eager to see how this turns out. It’s a dining and entertainment experience called “The Illusionarium.” The goal is to surround guests within the world of magic, inviting them to experience the illusions from world-class magicians and supernatural special effects. The show’s design is inspired by the science fiction of Jules Verne, the magic of magicians like Houdini and the supernatural in general and will feature a 30 foot diameter video dome.

When guests enter “The Illusionarium,” they will be surrounded by antique spell books, and interactive relics in a steampunk-inspired environment. All in all, it sounds pretty amazing and we can’t wait to get onboard to check it out. Above is a video that takes you on a tour of how the ship will look when its introduced to South Florida in 2014.
