“Our South America and Antarctica cruises continue to be among the most popular itineraries we offer, and demand has only grown,” Beth Bodensteiner, president, Holland America Line, said in a news release.

Holland America Line has announced that Nieuw Amsterdam – sailing in the region for the first time – will replace Oosterdam beginning in fall 2027.

With more space, additional stateroom options and an elevated guest experience, Nieuw Amsterdam brings added opportunities for guests to explore South America’s vibrant cultures, dramatic fjords and the breathtaking beauty of Antarctica.

All 2027-2028 South America voyages aboard Nieuw Amsterdam open for booking Feb. 24.

“Bringing Nieuw Amsterdam to the region allows more guests to experience its incredible diversity — from penguins on Antarctic shores to colorful cities, majestic fjords and glacier-lined channels,” Bodensteiner said.

“These destinations inspire a deep sense of wonder, and we’re thrilled to elevate the experience with one of our most beloved ships.”

With Nieuw Amsterdam sailing the season, guests can look forward to expanded capacity, more stateroom and suite options, and access to guest-favorite dining venues such as Tamarind and Morimoto by Sea, alongside Holland America Line’s award-winning programming thatbrings each destination to life.

From scenic cruising days through glacier-lined channels to overland adventures visiting legendary landmarks like Machu Picchu, the 2027–2028 season delivers unforgettable moments designed for curious, travel-minded explorers.
