A Magical Getaway

March 18, 2013 | Roger

With the Norwegian Breakaway nearing completion, Norwegian Cruise Line is starting to reveal details about the next new ship to be introduced in 2014, the Norwegian Getaway. Based in Miami, this new ship, like the Breakaway before it, will be themed around the city it sails from. And with Miami being the Magic City, the Getaway is bound to be full of magical experiences. The Best Beach in the Caribbean

March 14, 2013 | Roger

We won’t lie, we’re big fans of Club Med. We’ve definitely talked about it before, and we had a fabulous time when we were at Sandpiper Bay in Florida. But with spring coming upon us, people in the office are getting itchy to get away from it all for a while… and the more we think about where to go, the more we’re drawn to Club Med again, this time at Turkoise – the adults only all-inclusive resort at Turks and Caicos. Exploring Glacier Bay

March 12, 2013 | Heidi

We seem plunked down in a different world.  It looks like something from the depths of history. Or maybe from planets beyond our orb.

Great shards of ice glisten like diamonds in deep sapphire waters. Tidewater glaciers sweep like rivers of ice down massive mountain valleys.  Mountains, some as high as 15,000 feet, rise straight out of the ocean. Snow draped peaks tower over sparkling fiords. Read more...

A Private Princess Moment

March 11, 2013 | Heidi

Who doesn’t want to own a private island in the Caribbean, a secluded place to get away from it all? When I cruise, I always appreciate the cruise lines that have their own exclusive stopping places with no one else but the cruisers on our trip.

Located in the Bahamas, Princess Cays belongs to Princess Cruise Line. Situated on the southern portion of the island of Eleuthera, Princess Cays is about 80 miles from Nassau. Read more...

BYOBlount

The Grande Caribe small ship wins major points for its unusual drink system.

The 96-passenger Grand Caribe, part of Blount Small Ship Adventures, has a very practical system that worked very well on my recent cruise.

It always irks me when a cruise ship charges extra for fountain soft drinks and the price is usually terribly inflated for a small cup of flat cola. Read more...

Under the Sea in Grand Cayman

March 6, 2013 | Heidi

The deeper our submarine sank, the less colorful the underwater world became. That was a surprise for me aboard my first Atlantis Submarine dive.

For some reason, I thought life down deep would be like in the movies – vibrant Technicolor. Not so.

Our submarine guide Dan explains that colors begin to fade the deeper we go into the ocean. “The vibrant colors you see in photographs of the underwater world are the result of using artificial light,” Dan says. Read more...

Le Cirque At Sea

March 5, 2013 | Heidi

Robert DeNiro watches over my shoulder. Sophia Loren, Rod Stewart and Jackie Onassis smile from across the room.

Of course, these are just historic photographs. But they do help set the atmosphere for “An Evening at Le Cirque” ($39 each) on our Eurodam cruise.   Served in the Pinnacle Grill for only one evening on the cruise, the dinner presents a wonderful taste of Sirio Maccioni’s celebrated New York restaurant. Remembering the USS Alabama

March 4, 2013 | Heidi

For more than three and a half years, Bob Feller called the narrow metal bunk his home.

With scarcely enough room to move his lanky frame, Feller probably spent countless nights dreaming of his family and the Iowa farm where he was born.

A record-breaking baseball pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, Feller also might have pondered what his future could have held if not for World War II. Read more...

Breakaway Floats Away

March 2, 2013 | Roger

Alright, so we admit it. We love cruises. We love everything about cruises. We especially love new ships. That’s why when a ship finally hits the water, there’s a little extra energy in the office. The countdown to Breakaway is on. Hard to believe that the ship will be sailing in less than two months, especially considering it just hit the water for the first time last week. We’ve got a video here, and we just had to share. Read more...
