Cruise ships are as much museums of modern art as they are anything else these days, and that is very much apparent in the new Celebrity Reflection, which finally set sail from US waters last week. As part of our continuing coverage on the ship, we wanted to share about the fantastic artwork onboard.

The fifth and final ship in the Solstice Class for Celebrity features over 135 new modern art pieces and 115 additional pieces previously shown on other Celebrity ships. Its part of Celebrity 60 million dollar modern art collection, a pretty stunning number of pieces that could rival many modern art museums if they were all in one museum. The value of the art on the Celebrity Reflection? According to Blouin Artinfo, its over 4 million dollars alone.

Installations from many of the big names in modern art are on this ship – Albano Afonso, Dzine, Robert Rauschenberg… and an incredible installation of mirrored trees by Bert Rodriguez. Rodriguez is indicative of Celebrity’s commitment to the art world – because he was onboard yesterday where the artist was there to do a performance art piece aboard ship as part of Celebrity’s kick off to the Art Basel Miami Beach exhibition.
