See It Now: The Colosseum

There is a lot of endangered beauty in this world. And much of it is worth experiencing before its too late. The Colosseum fits this bill perfectly. The 2000 year old amphitheatre has been around for millenia, and many think that it will be there forever. The truth? It’s in a little bit of trouble structurally.

Now I should say, that the Italians are planning on restoring the site to a structural stability over the next few years. But the situation has gotten a bit dangerous for tourists. Dangerous enough, that a fence is being erected around the Colosseum to protect tourists from falling masonry. Parts of the interior of the area are leaning over a foot in one direction, and over half of the arena area is closed to the public because it is just too unsafe.

Is the Colosseum destined for collapse? Not likely, but the older it gets, the less access travelers might get. So see it now! Before its too late! To whet your appetite, here’s a quick video on the history of the Colosseum.
