This is the first in an irregular series on our blog about some of our favorite hotels around the world. We start in London with the Andaz Liverpool Street.

We love the Andaz Liverpool Street. The first hotel in Hyatt’s upscale, very modern Andaz brand, Liverpool Street takes classic Victorian architecture and melds it with impecable modern design in a very convenient location. Just off Liverpool Street station, the hotel is walking distance from the London Tower, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Tate Modern, and its just steps away from the Tube.

What we love is the elegantly casual atmosphere. Instead of a traditional check-in desk, a host greets guests in the lounge and takes care of the check in procedure while the guest relaxes and enjoys complimentary beverages. The rooms are clean, simple and modern with amenities you would expect in a five star hotel but without the expected price tag. Wi-Fi is available, of course, but its free. Come to think of it, the mini-bar is free too – at least for the non-alcoholic stuff. Throw in an iPod dock, a really nice shower and bath in every room, Eames chairs, Jacobsen lighting, and of course excellent service.

Pricing tends to start between 250 and 300 Pounds a night for their lowest price rooms, and heads up from there. Check out the video above for a tour of the Andaz and see what London contemporary luxury looks like.
