Cruise Trivia: Where is this bench and why is it here?
This is a double tough trivia question. It’s actually two questions in one and cruisers are most likely the visitors who have seen this popular photo spot.
First question – Where is this bench and why?
Second question – What book/movie does this bench commemorate? As an extra, do you know who wrote the book?
Hint: This site invites folks to slip their feet into the running shoes and sit next to the box of chocolates for a souvenir photo.
One of my favorite quotes from the book/movie was said by the main character: “Miracles happen every day. Some people don’t think so. But they do.”
It might not be considered a miracle but it would be a very happy time when I can return to this place aboard a cruise ship as I did on my last visit in February with the Celebrity Equinox.
Don’t look at the answer below until you’ve formulated your own response. Congratulations if you are correct. You must be a movie/book/island expert and a dedicated cruise ship traveler. Or maybe you are just a smart person who put the photos and the hints together for an educated guess.
If you didn’t know the answer, you might want to book a cruise to this Caribbean island. Cruising will resume. I’m adopting the positive attitude of the character in this movie/book. Why live in negativity when you have a choice.

(Answer)
The photo spot is in the Caribbean island of Cozumel. The bench, shoes and box of chocolates, of course, commemorate the character Forrest Gump. It is located outside the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company restaurant a short walk from where the Celebrity Equinox docks.
The Forrest Gump book was written by Winston Groom and published in 1986. The Forrest Gump movie starred Tom Hanks and was released in 1994.
I edited out the words on the white sign atop the bench. It says, “I’m Forrest. Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump.”
Tom Hanks won an Academy Award for his role in the movie. His most famous Forrest Gump quote, of course, is “My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
