Carnival Sensation Seaday Brunch offers leisurely way to start the day

Carnival Sensation Seaday Brunch offers leisurely way to start the day

Ah, sea day! A chance to sleep in, stroll around the ship, check on fun activities and enjoy a leisurely brunch in Fantasy Dining Room.

I’m not much of a buffet fan so I decided to skip the busy one on the Carnival Sensation. Not really pleasant to start the day by filling up a tray at a noisy crowded buffet and then have to look for a table to sit on the Lido deck.

I prefer to head to the dining room where a waiter will escort me to my seat. Then I can peruse a menu, decide what to order and have it delivered to me. Food presentation is also more appealing in the dining room than on the buffet.

We have two sea days on this cruise. And I plan to partake of Sensation’s special Seaday Brunch both times. The Seaday Brunch has no extra charge and is offered from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. so there’s no rush in getting there.

The two-page menu is filled with tantalizing choices and funny descriptions. Make sure to read both sides of the menu before ordering. The menu looks much like the one used in the former Punchliner Brunch offered on Carnival cruise ships where menu items were inspired by comedian George Lopez, Carnival Director of Comedy from 2011 to 2016.

For example, for the Eggs Benedict the description notes that “Only Americans would name eggs after some random guy named Benedict. Dig into these classic Eggs Benedict, choice of ham or salmon, hollandaise sauce, and zesty home fries.”

That’s what I ordered along with half an order of blueberry pancakes and both were good.

The couple at the table next to me chose the Chef’s Favorite of Huevos Rancheros and said they were tasty. The menu description: “Delicious chicken quesadilla, topped with fried eggs, manchego cheese and mucho mas Mexican flavors and other words you wouldn’t understand.”

Some other interesting choices include flamin’ tomato soup, Caesar salad, steak and eggs and mac and cheese. Notes the menu: “The only thing cheesier than the jokes on this menu is our mac n’ cheese. It’s up to you to tell what you want mixed in: fried chicken, steak or Applewood-smoked bacon.”

The menu even has a “desserts” category with sweets such as ice cream, caramelized cheesecake, banana cream pie and double chocolate brownie.

For those who want some vegetables with their breakfast, Seaday Brunch offers a big Bloody Mary Bar. Among the concoctions are a Bloody Maria made with tequila. At regular bar prices, the drinks have tons of garnish choices, including several very spicy hot sauces. Think I’ll stick with my morning Coca Cola.
