Budget Watch: Royal Caribbean Loosens Alcohol Policies
There’s finally a new answer to one of the most common cruising questions. We get a lot of guests asking us if they can bring their own alcohol aboard ship to enjoy in the room without having to pay the mark-up of bar prices. The answer has almost always been, no. There have been some exceptions, of course, but they often involved corking fees that cost as much as buying the bottle of wine on the ship to begin with.
But Royal Caribbean has bucked the trend, recently announcing a policy enhancements. From now on, guests can bring up to two bottles of wine per stateroom aboard the ship to enjoy in their room during their voyage and they can do so without charge. Royal Caribbean still charges the $25 corkage fee if you want your wine served in public spaces, by the way.
Of course, this is really just an addition to the love affair that Royal Caribbean has always had with wine, and has really started to showcase over the last couple years with Vintages. Here’s a video about the Vintages wine bar that is featured on the new Oasis class ships.
