Victory Cruise Lines Features Frank Lloyd Wright Shore Experiences on Select Great Lakes Itineraries
Jackie Sheckler Finch

Victory Cruise Lines invites travelers to discover the Great Lakes through the eyes of a visionary. In partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Victory is bringing America’s most iconic architect to life.

The exclusive educational and marketing partnership will enhance the shore excursion program for guests by offering a unique educational series aboard the Victory I and Victory II that will include discussions about Frank Lloyd Wright sites along the Great Lakes, the architect’s life and the ideals and principles that guided his work.

Ports of call featuring Frank Lloyd Wright architectural experiences include Chicago, Detroit, and Muskegon (Grand Rapids). The 190-guest Victory Cruise Lines ships are purpose-built to cruise on all five Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway and the French-Canadian Maritimes.

“Frank Lloyd Wright left a beautiful legacy of architectural marvels across the Great Lakes including two sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List and our guests will appreciate exploring his vision through his designs and learning so much along the way,” John Waggoner, chairman and founder of Victory Cruise Lines, said in a press release.

“We know learning is a priority of Victory Cruise Lines guests and this partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation offers opportunities to participate in onboard enrichment programs created and presented by Taliesin Institute,” Waggoner said.

Guests embarking on a Great Lakes cruise from Chicago’s Navy Pier can first visit Frank Lloyd Wright’s designed Unity Temple, revered and recognized by UNESC0 and a designated National Historic Landmark.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio in Oak Park, one of the most popular architectural sites in the Midwest, is also a part of the Pre-cruise Immersive Experience along with The Robie House and Rookery Building.

When Victory I and Victory II dock in downtown Detroit, a Premium Experience option for guests at The Smith House, which is operated by Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research and is an example of Wright’s Usonian ideal, aimed to build quality homes for the American middle class.

Calling on Muskegon, Victory Cruise Lines offers a journey to the Meyer May House in Grand Rapids and an exclusive opportunity to visit the Amberg House, a private home not open to the public.

“We are proud to partner with Victory Cruise Lines to launch the Frank Lloyd Wright/Victory Cruise Lines excursions. Led by the Foundation’s Taliesin Institute, the scholar-led journeys offer guests a rare chance to explore Wright’s visionary architecture through the lens of a living legacy,” Emily Butler, associate vice president of partnerships and strategic initiatives, Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, said in a press release.

“Our goal at the Foundation is to help inspire more intentional, connected and thoughtful ways of living today, and what better way than working with the Victory Cruise Lines team to connect our guests to Wright’s legacy of intentional design?” Butler said.

Victory Cruise Lines voyages along magnificent coastlines, journeys through seaways and lakes, navigates hidden harbors and calls on downtown marinas with ease.
