The new American Legend cruise ship set sail today on its inaugural cruise. The American Cruise Lines’ small ship is sailing roundtrip from St. Petersburg, Florida, on an “8-Day Florida Gulf Coast and Keys” itinerary.

American Legend will be officially christened on Wednesday, Nov. 27, when the ship is docked at Mallory Square in Key West. The ceremony will be held on board with the ship’s godmother, Key West Mayor DeeDee Henriquez, plus cruise guests and American Cruise Lines executives.

The Conch Train is a good way to see Key West.

On Thursday, Nov. 28, passengers will celebrate Thanksgiving on board American Legend with a traditional holiday meal and all the fixings.

The fully domestic cruise also will visit Marco Island and Punta Gorda in Florida and offers an optional pre-cruise hotel stay in Tampa, Florida. The cruise explores the Sunshine State’s Gulf Coast, offering many shoreside excursions in every port-of-call including a full day exploration of Dry Tortugas National Park.

American Legend accommodates 100 guests and can travel on almost any river or waterway in the U.S., with rare access to small ports. American Legend’s interior features modern décor and spacious staterooms, many with private balconies. The ship also has multiple lounges, an elegant restaurant, fitness center and outdoor café.

Ernest Hemingway’s home is now a museum in Key West.

American Legend is American Cruise Lines’ 19th new small ship, fourth Coastal Cat and second new ship this year.

American Cruise Lines is the largest river cruise line in the U.S.A., exploring the Mississippi River and waterways around the country. The company’s award-winning small ships and riverboats build on American’s 50-year history of unique exploration in the United States.

Visitors often stop in Sloppy Joe’s Bar for a drink and to see Ernest Hemingway memorabilia in Key West.

The company now offers luxury river cruise experiences in 35 states. With an entirely U.S.A. built and flagged fleet, American is the only company that sails 100 percent domestic river and coastal cruise itineraries all over the U.S.A.
