Cruise Destination Trivia: Name the statue?

So you’ve been on many cruises. Walked off the ship in many shore stops. But maybe you were in a hurry and didn’t really stop to enjoy something that was right in front of you.

See if you recognize this statue. A hint – it is on a popular island.

Don’t look at the answer below until you’ve formulated your own response. If you are correct, good for you. If not, might be time to take another cruise and look at the statue with fresh eyes.

Answer: An often-overlooked treasure near the entrance pavilion to the port of Nassau in the Bahamas is Randolph W. Johnston’s lovely bronze Tribute to Bahamian Women.

Located just inside the port complex fence in the Rawson Square area, the statue is a memorial to the country’s women. It portrays a woman holding a baby atop a rock memorial. The worn plaque notes that the tribute honors Bahamian women “whose steadfast love and devotion sustained our nation through countless years of diversity.”

Erected March 12, 1968, the life-size bronze praises Bahamian women whose quiet resilience has held together their families and their nation, through good times and bad.)
