Vacations
Dash and a Flash
May 20, 2013 | RogerSales happen in the travel industry on a daily basis. So many, so often that even we can’t keep track of all of them. However, this week there are two really great sales from our travel partners that we want to shed some light on, offering great value for travelers this week only. Be it a beach and pool vacation, or a cruise to just about anywhere, there’s a special deal available this week.
Norwegian Dashes To Savings
Our friends at Norwegian Cruise Line have a great deal starting tomorrow through Thursday May 24. Book a three night or longer sailing on any future Norwegian Cruise Line adventure and you’ll pay a reduced deposit and take advantage of some great onboard credit deals, as much as $250 per stateroom. Crown Cruise Vacations is offering lots of extras as well. Choose your own amenities, be it shipboard credit, specialty dining reservations or romance packages. This sale includes all ships, including the brand new Norwegian Breakaway, and her sister, the Norwegian Getaway, due to sail from Miami starting this winter. The Norwegian Breakaway is an amazing ship sailing from New York, and you can view some highlights from her christening earlier this month above.
That’s some nice extra cash to spend in the spa or eating at one of the many premium dining experiences that these ships have to offer, including Geoffrey Zarkarian’s Raw Bar aboard Breakaway. The deals are for three days only, Tuesday May 21 to Thursday May 24 – so if a cruise is in the works, the best time to make plans is now!
Club Med Savings in a Flash
Our friends at Club Med are offering some amazing deals this week too. In addition to the excellent values that the Semi-Annual Sale brings, Club Med is in the middle of a six day flash sale, offering discounts at up to 40% off at some of their best resorts in the Americas, including Turkoise – the adults only resort on one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, and our favorite, Sandpiper Bay, their four star, family friendly resort in Florida. With pricing starting as low as $763 per person for seven nights at an all-inclusive resort, and getting an additional $200 in resort credit from Crown Cruise Vacations, this is a deal to act on. And act fast, because the sale ends on Wednesday, May 23.

Three Reasons to Take A Guided Vacation
March 19, 2013 | RogerEurope, China, Australia, Peru. These are all great bucket list destinations with a lot to offer any traveler. In fact these destinations offer so much that its easy to get overwhelmed and lose track of all the important must-see and must-do moments on these once in a lifetime trips. Sometimes, not having someone to guide the way means missing out on a lot. So when the destination is something new, there are always good reasons to make that vacation a guided vacation by using a company that can set you up with just the right itinerary. Today, we want to share a few great reasons to jump on a tour for that next exotic destination.
The Best Beach in the Caribbean
March 14, 2013 | Roger 1We won’t lie, we’re big fans of Club Med. We’ve definitely talked about it before, and we had a fabulous time when we were at Sandpiper Bay in Florida. But with spring coming upon us, people in the office are getting itchy to get away from it all for a while… and the more we think about where to go, the more we’re drawn to Club Med again, this time at Turkoise – the adults only all-inclusive resort at Turks and Caicos.
How will the Sequester affect your vacation?
March 7, 2013 | RogerIt used to be that we could ignore politics in the travel industry. By and large, the goings on in Washington, D.C. had very little affect on a vacation – but that’s changing this month, as the Sequester budget cuts begin to take affect. Some of the effects may be minor, but these effects could rapidly snowball to turn a great holiday into the vacation from hell. Here are three tips that you can use to limit any effect these budget cuts could have on your travel. Read More
Snow White At 75
February 25, 2013 | HeidiShe doesn’t look a day older. But raven-haired Snow White is now 75.
The first Disney princess, Snow White has been charming movie goers since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was first released at Hollywood’s Carthay Circle Theater on Dec. 21, 1937.
As the first full-length animated feature film, Walt Disney’s groundbreaking masterpiece drew worldwide acclaim and scorn. Dismissed by some critics as “Disney’s folly,” the cartoon became one of the top grossing films of all time. Read More
Finding that Local Flavor
February 20, 2013 | RogerCruising the Mediterranean is a great way to get a taste of Italy, France, the Adriatic Coast. But what to do when there’s that one spot that you really loved? How do you head back and really get the full flavor of a destination, rather than just a taste? Our friends at G Adventures seem to have found a great way to make this happen. It’s called Local Living and its a great way to let the essence of a destination seep in.
Coming to Disney World: The Future
January 14, 2013 | RogerWalt Disney World and innovation go hand in hand. The complex of parks and resorts in Orlando have revolutionized the way people travel and the way people experience theme parks, and coming this year Disney is taking the experience one step further with the My Magic+ program. This is part of an 800 million dollar initiative to modernize and improve the time people spend in their parks and resorts.
The way it works is pretty simple. It all starts with wristbands. These rubber wristbands, called “Magic Bands” will make turnstiles a thing of the past, and it should shorten lines as well, by sending texts when a turn on a ride comes along, making paper tickets unnecessary and allowing guests to pay for snacks and souvenirs without having to reach for the wallet. It will also act as a room key for people staying on property.
There are some trade offs, Disney does get to learn a lot more about likes and dislikes, as well as spending habits. Some people may find this a bit creepy, but the truth is – in an environment like Walt Disney World, it can help make an experience a bit more custom, and a bit more shaped to the individual’s taste, instead of something more mass market. It’s like getting a bit more exclusive without excluding.
We think that this is a pretty nice enhancement to the Disney experience, and we’re pretty excited to try them out.

New Destinations of 2013: Cuba
December 27, 2012 | RogerIt’s the big open secret in US travel these days. Not enough people know about it, but they should. American travelers can see Cuba again, despite the general embargo on our neighbor to the south. Now, there is a catch – this isn’t going to be the normal “fun in the sun” beach holiday that most Caribbean travel becomes. Cuba is open for US citizens to see, but only in person-to-person cultural exchange programs.
